There is only one man who could mediate between humans and God, the man Christ Jesus. Because of the sin of humanity, because of what happened in the Garden of Eden, man was separated from God without a way back.

Most translations say, “the hardness of their heart.” The hardness of someone’s heart caused the blindness and the inability to participate in the life God intended and, therefore, receive the promises of God.
