Humbleness of mind

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬ “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Humility is so important. 1 Peter 5:5 says to be clothed in humility. Humility has come to be known as the opposite of pride, and that is true, but there is more to this very spiritual piece of clothing.

If we are going to finish our course, we need humility as part of our outfit for the race we are running. If we are going to finish our course with joy, we must make sure we are outfitted with humility. This humility is important in resisting the work of the devil along the way. If we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, we will receive grace to resist the devil.

The devil will spend a lot of time trying to get you off course, and you need God’s empowerment to stop the devil in his tracks. There is a righteous path that the Lord has for you, but there is also the path of the destroyer that the devil desperately wants you to walk and eventually run on.

The other part of being humble is important as well in our dealing with people every day. A person who is humble depicts a mindset, or an attitude, of someone who is lowly and willing to stoop to any level that is needed to help someone. This person is not self-promoting, but they are modest and unpretentious.

When we run our race with humility, not only are we able to resist the devil, but we are also able to help people. When they see the humility in your life, they will be drawn to you. Jesus came to serve, not be served. He washed the disciples’ feet, saying, “If you want to be the greatest in the Kingdom of God, you must first be willing to be the least and a servant of all.”

Jesus is our example of true humility, so let us endeavor to walk in the same humility as Jesus did. Jesus, the Son of God, lowered himself into human form so He could not only minister to those He came in contact with, but so He could minister to all of humanity by going to the cross. What a sacrifice, what an act of humility.

You don’t have to go to the cross to show humility, but there are definite things for each of us to do to show humility and minister to those around us.
