Get God’s Counsel So You Can Stand

Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

One mistake a lot of people in the church make is thinking that because they are a believer, they can do what they want to do, and God will just bless it because He is good, and they are His child. It sounds right, but this is taking God’s true character and assuming that we have to do nothing to walk in His benefits and full blessings. That’s not how it works. We must find His plan for our lives, and then we must do it. God is not required to, and won’t, bless the plans we come up with.

Remember in James when the businessman said, “I will go to this city for a year and buy and sell and get gain”? What did God say back to that man, and is, therefore, saying back to us? God said, “What you ought to say is if the Lord wills, we will do this or do that.” This is not a death scripture; this is a life scripture. In the middle of this passage it does say, “What is your life?” The answer is, “a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Even if you live to be 120, that is just a little while, a drop in the bucket, in comparison to eternity.

When you get the counsel of the Lord for your life and do it, that is where the blessing is, that is where the peace is, that is where the joy is, and that is where you will find true prosperity. Being in God’s will is the only thing that will stand when the storms of life come. Unless we build our life on the rock, by being doers of the written Word of God and doing what God designed us to do, we will not be able to fully stand. It is in the middle of the will of God that there is safety and security. Don’t try to do what you think up, no matter how great it sounds, and then ask God to bless it. Get with Him and get His counsel because it is the only thing that will truly stand.
