Having Their Understanding Darkened

Ephesians 4:18 “Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart”

Ephesians 1:18 says, “having your understanding being enlightened…” That means your understanding can be enlightened or darkened. So, that tells me that it is our choice.

You don’t have to do much to have your understanding darkened; it comes that way. Then, if you only hear what the world has to say and you are shaped by its belief system, your understanding will be darkened, even blinded, until the place you arrive at is gross darkness.

After you and I are born again, we have an opportunity to flood our understanding, the place we make decisions, with the glorious, life-changing light of the gospel. The Word of God is that light. The only way to remove darkness is with light.

The darkened understanding doesn’t go away with prayer and fasting; the darkened understanding goes away with replacing the darkness, or thoughts of this world, with light, or God’s thoughts. When a person has their understanding enlightened, they can know God things and God ways. It changes how you live and gives you insight into the things you should do and not do in your life. It literally illuminates your path so you can make the best decisions for your life.
