He corrects us

Hebrews 12:7-8 “If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons.”

One thing we are sure about is that God doesn’t use things we have been redeemed from to correct us. He doesn’t send sickness, accidents, or calamity to correct us. If we refuse His correction, then we put ourselves on the path of the destroyer, and because of our refusing to be corrected, those things could happen.

How does God correct those He loves? First, with the Word of God. Through preaching and teaching, the Word of God is given for correction and reproof. The Holy Spirit will deal with us as we hear the Word of God and will deal with our hearts to change something.

This is a wonderful thing because correction brings protection. Those who don’t want to hear challenging messages from the Word of God and only like the “feel good” or the “milk” of the Word will end up in big trouble because they refused to put themselves in a place where they could be corrected.

How else might God correct you? The Holy Spirit will minister directly to your spirit, by a witness, conviction, or speaking to you. If those don’t work, God will probably send someone to you personally, a Pastor, a mentor, a friend, someone who can correct and restore you with the love of God.

God corrects with His staff (Psalm 23), because He is a good shepherd. He will use the part with the hook to bring you right back in line. He will use the rod to drive away the enemy. Thank God He has a hook.

We all need some correction, some chastening. We will always be growing, learning, changing. We will never arrive at a point where God will not correct us. Why? Because He loves us.

If you are a child of God, then you will be corrected. Like I always say, you should get concerned when God is not correcting you. Keep growing. Keep receiving this special love from the Lord. Let Him correct you!
