Chosen and Consecrated
1 Peter 2:9 — “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…”
We are a chosen generation, a chosen race, a chosen people. God has chosen us. He adopted us into His very own family. What an honor that God wanted us as family members, and He sent His Son to make that happen. We are a part of a family because each side chose to be in this relationship. The Father chose us, but we also chose Him. Ephesians 1:4 (NKJV) says, “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without blame before Him in love.” What an honor to be a part of this family that God has put together. People on planet Earth have two choices. You can be a part of two families. You are either in God’s family or the devil’s family. We chose God. It is good to be a part of a chosen generation. We are not only part of His family, though; we also have a purpose—a role to fulfill.
Did you know you were part of the priesthood? We are actually a kingdom of priests unto our God. As a holy priesthood, we are to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God (1 Peter 2:5). Our job is still to offer sacrifices to God—not animal sacrifices, but spiritual sacrifices. Hebrews 13:15 tells us how to offer these spiritual sacrifices: we are to give God the sacrifice of praise—that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks unto His name. This priesthood builds a spiritual house for God with words, a place that God can come and inhabit. You are part of that priesthood, and you need to know how to do your assignment. We need to get good at creating an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself. You are a royal priest. You are part of the kingdom of priests that God has assembled to offer Him spiritual sacrifices!
In addition to both of these, He says we are a consecrated nation, a chosen people, a set-aside people, a special people for God’s own possession. God has redeemed us; therefore, we have been purchased by Him, by the precious blood of Jesus. That causes us to have been set aside. The context of this verbiage makes us a prized possession to God, something He wanted for His very own. He made us holy so we could walk with Him and fellowship with Him. He adopted us and purchased us so we could legally be His sons and daughters. That has made you a special person whom God sought after and bought with the blood of Jesus. You are a precious treasure to Him, and He wants to protect you, heal you, provide for you, and give you all that your salvation includes. You truly are part of a holy nation, and you are part of a chosen people. You are not peculiar meaning strange or weird; you are peculiar meaning set aside and chosen.
