Nothing
John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.”
This phrase is ignored by so many, “without Me you can do nothing.” You and I can live life on our own and get some things done, but nothing of real, eternal value. Then, when you think about it, without Jesus in our daily lives, we can’t get anything done of real value. We need Him in every part of our lives every day. He said that without Him, we could do nothing, and this is true. Because He is the vine (where the life flows from) and we are the branches (where the fruit comes from) we must be connected in a meaningful way.
I think 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV) describes what I am trying to say, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as of being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” We must realize that any good thing we could possibly do came from the ability that God gives, from His grace on our lives. This verse, in context, is talking about being a minister, but I think it applies to all of us in that we do not do things in our strength but in the strength that the Lord supplies. Whatever we do, let’s do it unto the Lord, but let’s also do it with the strength that He supplies. When we do, we will bear much fruit from our relationship with God.
