FOLLOW ON TO KNOW!

Hosea 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the Earth.

We are often familiar with the Bible talking to us about the latter rain, the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. We know in the time of the latter rain, we are supposed to ask for the rain. We are living in the last days, and we need the rain of God, so we should ask and cooperate with the outpouring of God’s mighty Holy Spirit. I want to look into the first part of this verse, on the “Following on to know the Lord.” Sometimes, something happens in our life that we don’t understand, or something doesn’t work out quite like we thought it should. People, then, have a choice to make; do you question God and get disappointed, or do you keep on going, trusting in God so your faith will not be shakened? When we don’t know why something didn’t happen, we can get disappointed and refuse to move, or can’t seem to move away from that disappointment, especially when it’s a tragedy.

We find someone in the Bible that fits what we are talking about, and his name is Terah. Do you know who Terah is? He has quite the famous son; he’s Abraham’s daddy. We find Terah mentioned in Genesis 11:24-32. In these verses, we find out some things about Abraham’s father. First thing we find out about Terah is he is from Ur of the Chaldees. We find out his other son, Haran, had died. And the last thing we find out is that, it seems, Terah was the one called to go into the land of Canaan. I believe this call to go into Canaan was not originally for Abraham but for his father, Terah. We also find out that Terah got to a certain place in his journey and stayed there, and the name of that place was Haran, and they dwelt there. I don’t think the original name of the place was Haran, but that Terah called it Haran after the name of the son he had lost. They were on their way to the promise of God, but Terah stopped because he could no longer carry on after the loss of his son. He was disappointed and could no longer follow on, so he just stopped.

It was Abraham that picked up the promise and went on, but Terah never got there because of disappointment. How do we keep from letting disappointment stop us? Follow on to know. We may not understand everything, but God is good. We may not be able to figure it out, but God can be trusted. We may not know why something happened or didn’t happen, but God is faithful; and if we will just keep on following Him, we may come to a place of understanding. We can only know if we follow on to know. Keep gaining knowledge and revelation of God’s Word and who He is. Keep spending time with your Heavenly Father, the creator of the universe. The more you follow on to know, the more you will know. It is almost like this, when you were four years old and told to do something or not to do something, you might have asked, “Why? Why? Why?” and your parents probably said, “Just do it.” You couldn’t understand it, even if they tried to explain it to you; but as an adult, you would totally understand why you shouldn’t chase a ball into the street, why you shouldn’t pet every dog you meet, and why you should eat your vegetables instead of just eating ice cream. You followed on to know in the natural, and you and I have to do the same thing with God. Follow on to know, and you will know!
