UNITY OF THE SPIRIT
Ephesians 4:3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We are called to love one another, and one of the main reasons is to keep unity in the church. God doesn’t move in chaos, strife, or envy. He can only fully manifest Himself where unity is abounding. The Psalmist said that in the place of unity, God commands His blessing. Jesus prayed to the Father for all of us before He left the Earth. He asked the Father to make us one as He and the Father are one. This is a big deal to God. Why? He wants to walk with us, manifest Himself to us, and show Himself strong to us.
How do we keep unity in the bond of peace? By going back to Verse 2 of Ephesians 4, “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.” First, we must be humble. We are told throughout the Word of God to humble ourselves. Jesus and Moses gave us great examples of humility. We also need to show meekness. What is meekness? Someone who is not selfish, someone who is gentle, and someone with a mild manner. Jesus said for us to come and learn meekness from Him. It is obviously something that is very important to the Lord to making sure we stay in unity with other believers and Jesus Himself. To keep unity, we must also be patient with people. We know patience is a fruit of the spirit and by it we obtain the promises of God. We must be patient with people. We must forbear one another or make allowances for people. We must walk in the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. When we work hard at keeping unity and making sure the peace of God is ruling and reigning, the very glory of God can show up in our services and in our lives. Let the Lord command a blessing on you because wherever you go and whatever you do, you are keeping unity in the bond of peace!
