Pleasures in Life

Luke 8:14 “And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.”

Jesus said that the pleasures of life choke out the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:4 says, “…lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” The Amplified Classic says, “lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.”

I don’t think the Lord is trying to keep us from enjoying life, but when something becomes more important than Him or takes us away from our relationship with Him or keeps us from serving Him, then it is a problem, and it will affect your soil (heart). So, when we put pleasures and amusements above God, it will put weeds in our soil.

When the heart or soil gets weeds in it, the fruit of the Word of God is choked out, and no fruit comes to perfection. This is the most frustrating. The root system was formed, the blade came up, the ear of corn began to come in, but because of the weeds, the corn doesn’t come to the place it can be harvested.

Who can change the condition of our heart? Only us. Determine right now that you are pulling out the weeds, and no more weeds are getting sown into your soil!
