Cares of This World

Matthew 13:22 “But he that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.”

This soil is known as thorny or weedy soil. So, there is enough soil to produce something, but along with the seed of the Word of God, this soil also has weeds and thorns, which end up choking out the Word of God, so it is not able to produce full results in someone’s life.

One of the main problems is the cares of this world. Worry is something that will consume your life and cause the Word of God not to produce in your life. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to “cast all of our care upon the Lord.” The Lord also tells us that we shouldn’t worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear. The Lord will take care of those things as we seek first the Kingdom of God. Worry of any sort brings weeds into our soil, which will always choke out the Word of God. We must refuse to worry about anything and cast the care of it upon the Lord in faith.

I remember, for me, a world champion worrier as a teenager, so much so that I worried myself into the hospital. The Lord spoke to me after I got out of Bible School and told me that if I would obey Him, He would perfect everything that concerned me. I didn’t even know that was a scripture (Psalm 138:8). What was He saying to me? Obey me and don’t worry about it, and I will take care of it. He has, and He will for you too.
