No Roots

Matthew 13:21 “Yet has he no root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.”

In order for any plant to make it and have a chance of producing the desired result, such as fruit, the plant must first have a root system. The root system is the first thing the seed produces; and if there is no root system, the plant will not survive. It will not be able to produce fruit.

Soil is required for a root system, and this portion of scripture tells us why some people do not have enough good soil to produce what they heard from the Word of God. These people are easily offended. These people are unable to hang on to what they have heard because the devil comes for the Word of God in their lives through tribulations or trials.

The devil sends specific things immediately to get the person to give up on the Word of God they have just heard and received with joy. The other thing the devil will do is send persecution for the Word’s sake. What is that?

You believe to be the blessing God made you to be, but then someone will say to you, “Don’t get messed up in that prosperity stuff.” You begin to declare you are healed and whole, but then someone will run across your path and say, “I once believed in healing, but God doesn’t heal everyone.”

He does, you know, but not everyone receives their healing, just like everyone doesn’t receive their salvation.

We must help people to not get offended and to not let the devil steal the Word of God from their hearts through tribulation or persecution. No matter who you are, you need to protect yourself against these things.
