The Blood that Speaks
Hebrews 12:24 - to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
We have a new and better covenant established on better promises. The New Covenant made the old obsolete (Hebrews 8:13). There are some obvious changes. No more sacrifices are necessary because Jesus is the sacrifice once and for all. With the New Covenant, we have a five-fold ministry instead of the anointing of a king, a priest, and a prophet, and Jesus has become the High Priest. There are many other things, but the greatest is that God chose to live in us instead of things made by men’s hands, and we have access to the Father ourselves because we are no longer servants, but children of God.
In the Old Testament, the sprinkling of blood was for atonement. The Bible says without the shedding of Jesus’ blood, no forgiveness would be available. We all know that Jesus shedding His blood and placing His blood on the mercy seat in Heaven has completed the work of salvation. The sprinkling of His blood has invoked and sealed a new and better covenant.
Abel’s blood called out from the earth for judgment, for revenge. Jesus’ blood cries out from the earth that it was shed for mercy. Jesus’ blood still speaks and calls out. Jesus’ blood calls us to repent. Jesus’ blood calls out for our protection. Jesus’ blood gives us access to the throne room. Jesus’ blood changed our lives. Jesus’ blood redeemed us. Jesus’ blood set us free!
