Ask in Faith
James 1:6-8 - But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
How do you ask in faith? I John 5:14-15 says that I should ask according to His will. What is God’s will? The Word of God is the will of God. So, when I ask, I ask according to God’s Word. If it is something personal to do with direction for my life, I would have to ascertain the will of God through prayer and make sure it aligns with the Word of God. When you and I ask in faith, God hears us. If we know God hears us, then we know that we have the petition we requested.
Wavering means to vacillate irresolutely between choices: fluctuate in opinion, allegiance, or direction. I Kings 18:21 challenges the Israelites, asking, “How long will you halt between two opinions?” He was saying to them either serve God or don’t. You have to choose. You could say it this way: How long will you try to have it both ways? We cannot waver. In order for our faith in God to manifest, we can’t go back and forth. We must keep our eyes on Jesus and His Word.
When we go back and forth, we will not be able to receive the promises of God. What do I mean by that? If we choose to believe God’s Word, then get our eyes on the circumstances, then the circumstances will begin to drive us like a wave, and we will be tossed. The devil uses circumstances and feelings to pull us away from the Word of God and what we have prayed in faith.
