Covenant Keeper
Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations.”
A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties. Covenant was God’s idea. He promised to remember His covenant to a thousand generations. He doesn’t just keep covenant with the generation of Abraham. He is a generational covenant God.
He is also faithful to His covenant and to His Word. If He makes a promise, He will keep it. Psalm 89:34 (NLT) says, “No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.” In Daniel 9:4 it says He will always fulfill the covenant.
That is why, when the children of Israel called on God to remember His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God did (Exodus 2:24), and He sent Moses to deliver them.
The covenant God made with Abraham was full of amazing promises, and we have that covenant too. We were grafted in because of what Jesus did on the cross. He became a curse for us, so that the blessing of Abraham would come upon us by faith. That covenant has to do with protection, wealth, and health, and so many other things.
We have that, and then Hebrews 8:6 says that we have a better covenant with better promises and that Jesus is the mediator of this covenant.
God, our Father, has made a covenant with you and me as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We have an inheritance because we are joint heirs with Jesus. What a blessing, what a gift to be in covenant with the Most High God.
