The Lord Directs Your Steps
Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart devises his way but the Lord directs his steps.
Decisions must be made concerning your life. It begins early and lasts until you take your last breath. The Lord has laid out a course; your steps are ordered or planned by the Lord. There is a definite God plan for your life. It includes everything.
No one who is born again should attempt to live life without letting Jesus be the Lord of their life. He is our Master; we should be subject to Him and His will, and that includes every part of our life. It includes where we live, our career, relationships, who our Pastor is, and so many more things. It should include everything.
James 4:13 talks about a man who has decided what he is going to do the next year and what city he is going to live in. Many people know this segment of scripture because people use it at funerals, because it says, “What is your life? It is even a vapor.” It is true your life is a vapor compared to eternity, and you shouldn’t be doing whatever your heart (soul and mind) devises.
Your mind will devise its own way. God gave us a brain, and we should use it, but we should not exclude God from the daily decisions and the big ones concerning the course and the future of our lives.
The Holy Ghost, through James, tells us what we ought to do. Instead of letting our mind devise its own way, we ought to ask the Lord what His will is for us. Maybe even break it down to, “Lord, what is your will for me this next year? What should I be doing this next year?”
If you have a question or an opportunity, you should run it by the Lord and find out His will before you let your mind devise its own way.
If you get out of the steps the Lord has provided for you, it will be harder than it needs to be. Granted, the will of God is not always naturally easy, but if it is the will of God, you will have the grace to make it; and if the devil shows up, you know you are submitted to God, and the devil will just have to flee.
Find out the will of God for you and just do it!
