I KNOW
Joshua 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
What is very interesting is this woman, who was not a part of the covenant, knew something and believed something so much that it caused her to act in an extraordinary way. She so believed something that in this case she was literally willing to risk her life with those in charge of Jericho to potentially win the favor of God.
Where did her confidence come from? She was not born again, she had no access to a prophet, she had not personally seen the cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. She had not physically seen anything with her physical eyes, but she truly believed something.
In Verse 10, it is recorded what she said, “For we have heard how the Lord…”. Then she recited to the two spies what she had heard. She told them basically she and others knew that God had given them Jericho, and she said we were afraid, “Our hearts did melt and there was no more courage in any man;” that’s a whole lot of people grabbing their knees (if you know what I mean)!
It is almost like this woman was waiting for this day because she immediately had a plan. She said, “I am going to hide you and keep you safe, but you are going to save me and all my father’s house.” She got exactly what she asked for.
What is the key? She knew. When you know something, you are bold. If this woman, who was not a covenant woman and did not have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of her, could believe and act on her belief, so can we.
Peter knew something, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said, “Flesh and blood didn’t reveal that to you, but my Father in Heaven.”
I am saying that the Father in Heaven has always been a revealer of who He is; and we, as humans, need to respond appropriately with our belief, with our faith in Him.
She knew just the same way we can know. She heard something and she believed something; and just like the woman with the issue of blood, she received something. It has always been the same with God. We all have an opportunity to hear and respond.
We have an advantage over this woman, over Peter, and the woman with an issue of blood because we are born again and have the Holy Spirit, the great teacher, living inside us.
We can do this. We must do this. We should be doing this.
Hear, believe, and respond!
