HE WENT NOT KNOWING

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

God had a plan for Abraham. He was sending him to a specific land, a place God wanted to raise up a people that would serve Him and that He would take care of their needs. God had found a man in Abraham who would obey Him fully and completely.

When God spoke to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, He told Abraham to leave his country. God told him, “Go from your family and from your father’s house, and I will take you to a land that I will show you.” He told Abraham that He would make him a great nation and that He would bless him and make him a great blessing.

What a promise!

God still speaks to people today. Sometimes it is about a career, a business, family, His dreams and plans for their life. God still gives visions and plans just like He did for Abraham.

In Verse 4 of Genesis, it seems to me to be the most important part of the account. It says, “So Abraham departed.” It didn’t say Abraham kept praying to see if this would work. It didn’t say that he and Sarah fasted; it says they departed.

I know the thing people have trouble with is what the devil said to Eve, “Did God say?” Once you know what God said, you should act upon it. Don’t confer with your flesh, your bank account, or your friends; just obey God.

Now listen, I can hear the opposition to this right here as I am typing. Sure, you have to know that it is God, but you are His sheep, and you know His voice. You do not follow the voices of strangers.

True, the Bible says in Proverbs that there is wisdom in counsel. It’s also true that if you have told your spouse the last five things you did that the Lord told you to do and they never worked, you may have to get a hold of how to be led and follow the voice of your Shepherd, but for most people, when God speaks, we wait until everything is just perfect before we obey Him.

We have to have enough money; so, God won’t provide? What about my children? I want to give them a better life than I had. Now you’re going old school and saying what the Children of Israel said, “You brought my children from Egypt to die!”

He didn’t like it then, and He doesn’t like it now.

Now Pastor Mark, we have to use wisdom. Depends on whose wisdom you are using. If it’s the world’s wisdom, then it is devilish and sensual, and it will keep you from the plan of God for your life.

Abraham is our father in the faith; we have his blessing and his example. He went! What are you doing?
