Passover: The Lamb

Day 28 of At His Table continues the story of Passover with a closer look at the blood of the lamb. In Exodus 12, each Israelite household was instructed to take the blood of an innocent, spotless lamb and apply it to the doorposts of their home. When judgment came through Egypt, God gave them a powerful promise: “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

Today's devotional emphasizes an important detail: it wasn't enough for the lamb to be perfect or for its blood to be shed—the blood had to be personally applied. Each household had to respond in faith and obedience. That blood became a line of distinction, representing protection, deliverance, and salvation for everyone inside the home.

The Passover points us toward something far greater: the blood of Jesus. Through His sacrifice, we have not only been offered salvation and deliverance, but access to the Father Himself. As you take communion today, reflect on what the blood of Christ has made possible in your life. Day 28 reminds us that Jesus' blood was shed for us, but it is also something we are called to personally receive by faith—and through it, we can confidently enjoy the benefits of His finished work.
