Day 22 | communion
It Is Finished
Day 22 of At His Table centers on three of the most powerful words Jesus spoke from the cross: “It is finished.” John 19:30 marks the completion of everything Christ came to accomplish. Every prophecy was fulfilled, every assignment from the Father was completed, and the work of redemption was finished.
Today's devotional explores the depth behind Jesus' declaration. His words carried the picture of a debt being paid in full, a sentence being completely served, and a battle being won. On the cross, Jesus wasn't declaring defeat—He was announcing victory. The debt of sin had been paid, judgment had been satisfied, and the way to salvation had been opened. Nothing needs to be added to His finished work; our response is to receive it, align ourselves with Him, and walk in what He has already accomplished.
As you take communion today, reflect on the completeness of Christ's sacrifice and the victory represented by the bread and the cup. Then consider the example Jesus left for us: He glorified the Father by completing the work He was given to do. Day 22 leaves us with a personal challenge: Are we faithfully completing what God has entrusted to us so that, when our work is finished, we too can hear, “Well done”?
