Day 19 | communion
The Cruel Crown
Day 19 of At His Table reflects on one of the most painful moments leading to the cross: the cruel crown placed upon Jesus' head. After enduring physical abuse, Jesus was dressed in a scarlet robe, crowned with thorns, mocked as a king, spit upon, and struck repeatedly. Yet through it all, He remained steadfast.
Today's devotional looks beyond the physical pain to consider another part of Christ's suffering—the attack against His mind. His tormentors tried to humiliate, taunt, and break Him, but Jesus refused to allow their words or actions to move Him from His purpose. He knew what He had come to accomplish, and He endured it all for us.
As you take communion today, remember the Savior who wore the crown of thorns and remained victorious through every attempt to defeat Him. Day 19 reminds us that because of what Jesus endured, we can look to Him for freedom, renewed minds, the peace of God, and the mind of Christ. The cruel crown tells a painful story—but it also points us toward the freedom His sacrifice made possible.
