Day 18 | communion
Beaten, Battered, and Bruised
Day 18 of At His Table turns our attention to the physical suffering Jesus willingly endured on the way to the cross. In Luke 22, we see Jesus mocked, blindfolded, beaten, and struck—another sobering reminder that the blood He shed for us came at a tremendous personal cost.
Today's devotional encourages us to look beyond simply saying we “apply the blood” and consider what the blood of Jesus truly represents. Scripture tells us that life is in the blood, and Jesus willingly poured out His life to provide redemption for us. He knew what He would endure, understood why it was necessary, and chose to go through it because of His love for us.
As you take communion today, pause to think about the sacrifice behind the cup. Jesus was beaten, betrayed, and bruised, yet He willingly gave Himself so that we could receive what His blood provides. Day 18 invites us to move beyond familiar words and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the blood that was shed for us—and to confidently receive the provision Christ made available through His sacrifice.
