Day 17 | communion
Blood in the Garden
Day 17 of At His Table takes us into the Garden of Gethsemane, where we see one of the most powerful expressions of Jesus' surrender to the Father. Luke 22 describes Christ in such deep anguish that His sweat became like great drops of blood. Knowing exactly what awaited Him at the cross, Jesus still chose obedience: not His will, but the Father's.
Today's devotional connects this moment in the garden with the cup Jesus shared with His disciples—the blood of the new covenant poured out for the forgiveness of sins. The garden reveals that Christ's sacrifice wasn't something He entered into lightly. He understood the suffering ahead, yet willingly submitted Himself to God's plan of redemption.
As you take communion today, remember not only the blood Jesus shed at Calvary, but the surrender that preceded it. Day 17 invites us to reflect on the tremendous price of our redemption and the willingness of our Savior to follow the Father's will all the way to the cross—and challenges us to consider what that same kind of surrender looks like in our own lives.
