Day 13 | communion
Gazing At The Serpent
Day 13 of At His Table takes us to Numbers 21 and the powerful account of the bronze serpent. When the Israelites were bitten by poisonous snakes, God provided a clear promise: those who looked toward the bronze serpent would live. Their circumstances may have been frightening, but their hope wasn't found in what was happening around them—it was found in where they chose to look.
Today's devotional connects that moment to our relationship with Jesus. It's easy to become consumed by problems, circumstances, or even what we see happening in the lives of others. But rather than allowing those things to determine our expectations, we're challenged to fix our attention on Christ with a steady, expectant gaze. The circumstances may change, but the Rock does not.
As you take communion today, consider a simple but important question: Where is your focus? The bread and the cup point us back to what Jesus has already accomplished through the cross. Whatever may be surrounding you today, this message encourages you to turn your attention away from the problem and toward the One who remains your firm foundation.
