PUT ON LIGHT!
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
To get the correct clothes on, and for them to function properly, sometimes you have to get rid of what you are currently wearing. After going to the gym or working outside, you sweat, and that sweat gets on your clothes, or perhaps your clothes get dirty, or maybe you eat, and you dribble something on your shirt. You have to change clothes and put new ones on because you don’t put clean clothes on over the old dirty ones. If you do, the new ones will begin to stink as well. You must remove the old before you put on the new.
We are born again. In our spirits, we are new creations, and have been made righteous, but that didn’t happen for our flesh. Our old “flesh clothes” must be removed so we can put on the new.
In this scripture, we are told to cast off the works of darkness, which means to get rid of the things we used to do in the flesh when we lived as sinners before we were born again. We have to, on purpose, cast off the works of darkness, the sins that we used to participate in, so we can put on the armor of light.
What is the armor of light? It is the Word of God because it is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. The Word is light. The kingdom of God is known as the kingdom of light. Jesus is the light. The fire of God is a light.
We must put on the Word. In other words, we let the Word of God dominate our life. We put it on; we are doers of the Word. When we put on this armor of light, it will dispel darkness in our lives and everywhere we go.
It is an amazing thing about light. It doesn’t take a lot of it to begin to dispel darkness, especially gross darkness. We are to take off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Put on Jesus!
