JESUS MY ADVOCATE

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

We can live free from sin because we have been made righteous and have been given a new nature. In Chapter 1 and the beginning of Chapter 2 of 1 John, the Word talks a lot about righteousness and unrighteousness. The position of righteousness is so important.

When we got born again, our position changed. We were once unrighteous and had no standing or access to God as a Father, but after the new birth we became righteous. Jesus became sin so that we could become righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21).

If we walk in this new nature, if we live and abide in Him, and if we walk in the Spirit, we will not give in to the lusts of our flesh, and we will live free from sin and the wages of it, which is death.

This scripture goes on to tell us that if we sin, we have an advocate, Jesus Christ the righteous. So, Jesus is our advocate. What is an advocate? Someone who defends the cause of another, supports the interest or cause of someone else, or pleads the cause of someone before a judicial system.

Thank God we have an advocate. Jesus became that through His death and resurrection when He put His blood on the mercy seat and sat down in heavenly places as our High Priest. Thank God Jesus is ever living to make intercession for us and to be our advocate before the throne of God.

Do not sin, but if you do, you have an advocate so you can be forgiven, cleansed, and helped to live free.
