GET WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING.

Proverbs 4:7-8 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee honor, when you do embrace her.”

When I think of these two words, wisdom and understanding, this is what they mean to me. Wisdom is the application of knowledge. Knowledge is finding out what the Word of God says about a subject and then, getting God’s perspective of what He thinks about it. You can have a headful of knowledge on God’s Word on a subject; but if you don’t apply it in wisdom, it does you no good. Knowledge puffs up. That is why wisdom is the principal thing and why we must get understanding of God’s Word. You can know the facts and even the truth of something and still not understand it. I think that is when the Holy Spirit comes in and gives us revelation and understanding so we can apply it in our lives and that’s when it becomes wisdom. I like this as well: knowledge is gaining information to know how something works or how to do something; wisdom is knowing when and how to use it. You can gain knowledge of how to operate a gun, but it takes wisdom to know how and when to use it. Many people have knowledge of God’s Word and His desires on various topics, but it is not until you appropriately use God’s Word are you walking in Godly wisdom.

It's so important that we walk in God’s wisdom because of what it leads to. This verse says that understanding and wisdom will promote you. It reminds me of what God said to Joshua. He told Joshua to meditate in the Word and do it, and then Joshua would find good success and make his way prosperous. Walking in the wisdom of God will also bring you honor; but you have to embrace it. When you embrace someone or something, it is taking a fast hold on them or whatever you are embracing. We must take a fast hold on wisdom, embrace it, make it a part of our lives and when we do, it will bring promotion and honor. Walk in wisdom; it is the principal thing!
