OUR SPIRITUAL GUIDE!

John 16:13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.

When you go on a tour with a tour guide, they will point things out and tell you what you are seeing and even what you should look at and look for. Even when, at times, they are asked an obscure question, a good tour guide, one who really knows their stuff, can answer even the craziest question. Now, I am not of the opinion that there are no stupid questions, but it does seem that the Holy Spirit is ok with us asking anything about the Word. In James 1, it says if you need wisdom, ask and you will receive, and the Holy Spirit won’t even make fun of you or say, “You should know that.” He will answer you, and He will show you. What will He show you? I usually use this verse concerning He will show you things in the future but for this, I want to talk about a different part of this verse.

First, you see the Holy Spirit is always speaking. He doesn’t’ speak of Himself; He hears, and then He Speaks what He hears. Who is He hearing speaking to Him? The Father and the Son, of course. You should know that the Spirit of God is a great communicator. He can show you things and talk to you about what is coming in your life in the future, and He can tell you what the Father and the Son want you to personally know.

The thing I want to concentrate on now is that He will guide you into all truth. What is truth? Jesus said, “My Word is truth.” You and I have a personal tour guide who knows everything about the written Word of God, the logos. He was there when He moved on Holy men of old to record these words (2 Peter 1:20-21) that we know today as the Word of God. Jesus is the Word made flesh, and the Holy Spirit was there to give us Jesus through the written Word of God. Since the Holy Spirit inspired Holy men of old to write it, He knows and can guide you into the deepest meaning of each scripture. So, as you hear, study, and meditate the Word of God, let the Holy Spirit teach you what it means. Let Him give you revelation of it. He is the revealer of truth, and He will open the eyes of your understanding. You can know, I mean really know, the Word of God when you let the Holy Spirt reveal it to you. It can become revelation so that you can act on it from your heart and not just from your sense knowledge.

People say, “I can’t understand the Word of God; it doesn’t make sense; it doesn’t’ agree with itself.” Those are all untrue statements. Someone who says that is either not born again or they have never gotten acquainted with the revealer of truth, the tour guide, the Holy Ghost. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 is a famous scripture that many people misquote. It starts with, “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” Most people stop there and say, “See, God’s ways are beyond finding out.” The good news is that in the next verse, it says God has revealed them to us. The Spirit of God will reveal the Word to you; yes, even the deep things of God. Thank God for the Holy Spirit. He is a wonderful tour guide!
