STRONG SPIRIT
Proverbs 18:14 (AMPC) The strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble, but a weak and broken spirit who can raise up or bear?
When we are in physical pain or trouble, this portion of scripture tells us a vital key to walking in health and wholeness. We know it is the will of God to physically heal us, and this scripture tells us one way to receive and walk in healing is by having a strong spirit because a strong spirit will sustain us. We are a three-part being, we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body. When the body, or what the Bible calls our temple, is sick or needs repair, how do we get it fixed? There are times when natural things will help and God is not opposed to those, but this scripture says you need a strong spirit. This strong spirit will sustain you during the physical struggle when there are issues in your temple.
How do we get a strong spirit after we are born again? We must feed our spirits for them to gain ascendancy in our lives. We have all heard the saying, “
Whatever you feed will win,” so if you are fleshly and only live by your body or flesh, being a carnal Christian, walking in divine health will be difficult for you. If we don’t take the time to renew our mind and deal with our soul, walking in divine health will still be difficult for us. What must we do? We must be very spirit conscious. We must understand that we must feed our spirit the Word of God on a very regular basis. The Word of God is the only thing that will strengthen your spirit. Prayer is good, and praying in the Holy Ghost is awesome; singing is wonderful too, but there is no substitute for feeding on the Word of God on a daily basis. When you feed His Word daily, you are strengthening your spirit. It is when your spirit is strong, you can exercise in faith and walk in divine health, which is the will of God for us.
The rest of today’s verse tells you, even if you are born again, what happens if you don’t feed your spirit. Your spirit will be weak. If your spirit is weak, you will not be able to grab and hold on to health. If you say, “I thought my spirit was perfect, created in the likeness of God?” Yes, that is true, but just like a physical body that is not developed cannot do what it was meant to do, so too is your born-again spirit. It is not up to God whether you are strong or weak in spirit, that is up to you. It is the Word of God that will fuel us, so let’s feed on it and be strengthened so if sickness or pain attack us, we are strong enough in spirit to walk in health."
