Forgetting Those Things Which Are Behind

Philippians 3:13 (KJV)

“…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”

One of the greatest gifts from the Holy Spirit is that He will help you forget. Forget the evil you have done. Forget the evil done to you. Joseph marked forgetting what happened in his life by naming his first child Manasseh, which means the Lord causes me to remember no more.

Paul is giving us a key to victory in life, and that key is forgetting the former things—forgetting what hurts, forgetting the failures of our past. Can you forget? People say, “I just can’t forget it.” Well, you may remember it historically and remember some of the details, but it doesn’t have to take up any heart space. What I mean is that it doesn’t bring feelings when you remember.

I can actually testify that I can totally forget. The Lord has personally helped me remember no more. Even if you don’t totally forget the event, you can remember it and have no more pain. If you don’t forget the past, it will hold you in captivity. You will always be living in yesterday.

Jesus said that no man is fit for the kingdom of God while looking behind. In other words, faith is now. You can’t operate in it by looking behind. Looking behind causes you to plant crooked rows in your future. You will actually damage your future by living and looking back to the past—even longing for the way it used to be or for the “good old days.”

Let go!
Turn it loose!
No more looking back for you!
