This One Thing I Do
Philippians 3:13 (KJV)
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do…”
The NLT says it like this: “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing.” I think it is an ongoing process to forget. We will look at the dangers of not forgetting tomorrow, but Paul said, this one thing I do. That makes this huge. That makes this an epic thing for your life.
Of all of Paul’s writings, this one seems so important. He said, I am continuously working on this; it is not a one-and-done. If it wasn’t possible for you to do this, Paul would have said, “Try this; it might help you too.” But that is not what he said by the Holy Ghost. He said, I haven’t totally got it yet, but every day there is something I consciously do—I forget.
Paul had a lot to forget. He had to forget what he allowed to happen to Stephen. He had to forget persecuting the church and Jesus Himself. If Paul could forget in such a way that his past did not hold him captive, so can we.
Don’t forget your appointments. Don’t forget your spouse’s birthday. Don’t forget what God has done for you. But every day, work at forgetting your past and all the mistakes you made.
