Crucified with Christ
Galatians 2:20 — “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…”
Because I believe that Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead, the old me has been crucified with Christ. Romans 6:6 says, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Because I am crucified with Christ, the control sin had over me is gone. The Word says if I walk in the Spirit, I will not fulfill the lusts of my flesh. The old man and his desires have been crucified.
When something is crucified, it is painfully put to death. We have to crucify our flesh and keep it under, but we do this with the help of the Holy Spirit. We do this by walking in the Spirit. You are now a dead man walking—the old you is dead. That means if you were given to unhealthy, fleshly desires, if you were addicted to something, or if you had desires that were against what the Word of God teaches, then you can and must crucify those desires and keep them under—not with willpower, but with God’s power.
The very same Spirit lives in you and will quicken (make alive) your flesh. You can now live with your body and the old sin nature and its desires crucified. You are now ready to live the resurrected life!
