LYING TONGUE

Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things does the Lord hate: yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.  A heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

The Lord hates it when we lie.  One big reason is the devil is known as the father of lies (John 8:44).  When Jesus identified the devil as the father of lies, that lets us know that all lies have their origin in the devil; he is the source, the beginning of all lies.  It is part of the fallen nature of mankind to lie.  Since we have a new nature, we are no longer liars, and we should not associate ourselves with a lie.  Colossians 3:9, says, “Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds.” So, again, we see that lying is part of the old nature and must be put off.  We are supposed to be like our Heavenly Father because we are created in His likeness, after His image.  We know, according to Numbers 23:19, that God is not a man that He should lie.  We need to let go of lying in every shape, form, and fashion, and not give it a color code like one kind of lie (little white lie) is ok and others are horrible.  All lies are horrible because of their origin; and as a believer in Jesus Christ, who is the truth, we should emulate that aspect in us and walk and speak the truth only. 

Set a good example in front of your children and friends and refuse to lie.  Refuse to stretch the truth, which is still a lie in any way, shape, or fashion.  If the Lord hates lying, then I hate it.  If it has its root in the devil, I, absolutely, want no part in it.  We should teach our children that there is great value in telling the truth, even when it hurts.  What a world it would be if no one ever lied.  I guess we will have to wait for Heaven for the full manifestation of that, but at least in your house, in the house of God, and in realm of influence, no lies!
