SEEK HIS FACE

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Jesus said we should spend our energy seeking the eternal life that He made available to us. We only have so much “energy” to go around; what are our priorities? Throughout the Word of God, we are told to seek the Lord. This is not for His benefit, this is for our benefit. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.” We should be giving God a good portion of our time; yet, so many times, He gets what is left over. Throughout the Psalms we are given examples of seeking God’s face. I particularly like Psalm 27:8 which says, “When you said, seek you my face; my heart said unto you, your face, Lord, will I seek.” The Lord is positioning us to receive something from Him when He requests us to seek His face.

A scripture about seeking God’s face is very important to us as a nation right now. Many people will try many different things to fix a national problem, but if God is going to be able to intervene, we must do it His way, with His pattern, and with His Word. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, it says very clearly how God fixes nations, ‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Seeking God’s face and putting Him first is the key to changing a nation. When we seek Him and do the other things this verse requires of us, the believer, then God can supernaturally intervene. I am always reminded of Sodom and Gomorrah when Abraham stopped asking God to spare the city if there where righteous there. Abraham started at fifty and worked his way slowly down until he couldn’t go any farther. I have always believed if Abraham would have asked God to spare it, for his sake, that the Lord would have, one friend to another. Even at that, the Lord spared Lot, who God called righteous, even though Lot’s soul was vexed, the Bible says. My point is, seeking God can lead to friendship. Jesus said, “We are no longer servants but friends.” Friendship will lead us to a place of trust with God, so that we can make requests of Him and stand between destruction and God’s mercy for a nation. Let us seek His face.
