Real Obedience

Romans 2:13 (NLT)
For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in His sight.

God isn’t just checking to see if we are marking off reading the Bible today on our to-do list. He’s checking to see if we are following His Word, being obedient to His Word. I love this scripture because it’s a good reminder that it doesn’t take just listening, but instead it requires taking action.

The same way that you take medication when you’re sick is the same way that we need to apply the Word. There’s an action with it. You don’t just look at the medication; you take it.

It reminds me of Matthew 22:37–38:
Jesus replied, “‘37 You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Because I love my parents, I’m obedient to my parents. A part of loving Jesus is being obedient to His Word and what He says. Like when you were young; your parents have experienced much more life than you, so they know how to guide and direct you to keep you out of trouble.

The Father has been around since the very beginning. Obedience to Him can keep you out of trouble and bring you into what He has called you to be.

Just listening doesn’t please the Father, it’s by being obedient to His Word.
