MEDITATE

Psalm 1:2–3 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

First, don’t be thrown by the use of the word “law.” You can easily substitute “law” with the “Word of God.” The law is what they had from God, but we have the whole counsel of the Word of God. In order to receive a Rhema from the Word of God, you and I must meditate the Word of God. What does it mean to meditate on the Word? You think deeply about something. You ponder it and reflect on it. When you meditate on something in your mind, it can come with images, so you have to be careful what you meditate on. I like what someone said, “If you know how to worry about something, you know how to meditate.” In 1 Timothy 4:15, Paul told Timothy to meditate on these things, give yourself wholly to them, that your profiting may appear to all. What is Timothy supposed to meditate on? The things that were spoken to him by the Holy Ghost at his ordination. He was to practice, cultivate, and meditate on the duties of a pastor. When Timothy meditated on these things, his profiting would be seen by everyone. When we meditate the Word and what God has specifically spoken to us, our profiting will appear to everyone as well.

How often should you and I meditate on the Word of God? Many people only do it when they have a problem and need an answer, but the Word says to meditate day and night. God told Joshua, as he was leading the children of Israel to the promised land, to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night (Joshua 1:8), so this means all the time. God said to Joshua to meditate on the law (Word) if he wanted to have good success; if he wanted to obtain everything God had for him, he was going to have to meditate the Word of God all the time. You are going to have to ponder it, think on it, visualize the result of what you are reading and studying. When you can see yourself with the promise, when you have revelation, a Rhema, you will be able to seize it. I remember when the Lord said that to me, “If you can see it, you can seize it!”

Really, that is the whole purpose of Daily Bread; it is to get a scripture for the day and meditate on it all day. When we do this on a consistent basis, we will be able to see with our spiritual eyes what God has for us and then we can seize it and walk in it.
