For this purpose
Acts 13:36 (AMPC) For David, after he had served God’s will and purpose and counsel in his own generation, fell asleep [in death] and was buried among his forefathers, and he did see corruption and undergo putrefaction and dissolution (of the grave).
God has a will and a purpose for all of us, not just King David, not just ministers, and not just Jesus. Jesus had a purpose; 1 John 3 :8 tells us that one of the purposes of why Jesus came was to destroy the works of the devil. Jesus fulfilled that while on the cross and after He physically died; Colossians 2:15 says that Jesus spoiled every principality and power and made a show of them openly. Mission accomplished. King David fulfilled His purpose to his generation. He defeated Goliath and led the nation of Israel into a time of victory and prosperity. They followed his example and worshipped and honored the Lord. What is your purpose? What is your destiny? What are you supposed to be doing for your generation?
In Acts. 26:16 (NASB 1995), we get to see behind the scenes of when Saul became Paul. The scripture says, “…For this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness…” The Lord wants to talk to all of us. He has a purpose right now in the body of Christ, to get us all in our place, following our destiny, helping us finish our course, and finishing the assignment He gave to us in our mother’s womb. The Lord wants to appoint you to do something. It may not be to preach or teach (that is not most of the body of Christ’s assignment), but definitely to be a witness, which is everyone’s job. Ask Him, “Lord what is my purpose? What is my destiny? What am I supposed to minister to this generation?”
Just listen in your heart, and you will receive direction. He will ask you to do something, to serve someone in a way that blesses the local church and the body of Christ. Everyone can and should do something. He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). You have a purpose! God has a plan! You will help change someone’s life by getting in your place and finding your purpose.
