MEEK WILL INHERIT

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.

What is meekness? It is definitely not weakness. Because Jesus was meek, and Moses was the meekest man on the Earth at that time, God used Jesus and Moses to deliver His people, so meekness is not weakness. Meekness is mildness, an even balance of all tempers and passions. It is remaining in control no matter what comes your way. It is being steady. A person who is meek doesn’t have a lot of emotional ups and downs. Someone who is stable is someone who is exhibiting the fruit of meekness. When someone is meek, they must also be humble. We know humility is something that Father God loves. He hates pride; He keeps those at arm’s length who walk in pride.

Jesus made these “famous” statements in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come and take my yoke,” and, “My yoke is light and easy;” but He also said, “Learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart.” Jesus was basically saying that if you want it light and easy, you first must come and learn something from Him. If you want to be yoked with Him, you must be meek and humble. He said, “You must learn,” so it is not automatic. Moses had this quality, and he was the most used man during His time. This meekness caused God to be a friend to Moses and to show Moses His goodness, which is His glory. It caused God to call Moses up to the mountain where they would be together for many days and nights. God was even willing to start over with just Moses. God liked Moses. So, what do we know about Moses? Numbers 12:3 (AMPC) says, “Now the man Moses was very meek (gentle, kind, and humble) or above all the men on the face of the Earth.” That is quite a statement.

The good news is that meekness is available to all of us. It is a fruit of our born-again spirit, and it can be grown. We are to walk in meekness; and when we do, Jesus said that we will be blessed, and we will inherit the Earth. This is not meant to make you performance based. You cannot be truly meek in God’s eyes without the new birth. The fruit of meekness is in you, but you must develop it by walking humbly before God and people and putting your flesh under. By walking in the fruit of meekness, you will inherit great things because the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ Jesus.
