MEEKNESS
Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest for your souls.
Along with humility, the Lord is asking us to come to Him and learn about the meekness that He walked in on the Earth. Meekness is one of the nine fruits in our recreated spirit. This fruit is vital for us to walk in. Let’s look at the meekness Jesus walked in and wants us to walk in. It is available to all of us because, again, it is a fruit of our recreated spirit. What is meekness? It is strength under control. It refers to how we treat others. It is not passivity. It is strength that is tempered with humility. Meek individuals are not weak individuals; rather, they are persons of power and influence who consciously and intentionally keep their strengths under control while demonstrating humility, kindness, and tranquility. This is certainly a definition of Jesus while He walked on the Earth. To look at meekness and the value it holds in God’s eyes, let’s look at Moses. Numbers 12:3 (AMPC) says, “Now the man Moses was very meek (gentle, kind, and humble) or above all the men on the face of the Earth.” It is interesting the Lord said Moses was the meekest of all men on the planet during his time. He was also the most used man of anyone on the planet at that time. God spoke with Moses face to face; God considered Moses a friend that He could and did talk to plainly. God used the meekest man on the planet to deliver His people out of bondage. Moses wasn’t perfect like Jesus, but the quality of meekness made him stand out to God. Psalms 37:11 (AMPC) says, “But the meek [in the end] shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Remember, Jesus said that the meekness we would learn from Him would lead us to a place of peace. The Psalmist said that the meek would inherit the Earth and would have an abundance of peace. Jesus quoted this scripture in Mathew 5:5 (NKJV) when He said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Father God has always prized meekness. Moses displayed it and was used mightily of God; and Jesus walked in it to show us how meekness was perfectly displayed. In Matthew 21:5, Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Creator of all things, the Word of God made manifest, came in for His triumphal procession riding on the colt of a donkey. He was not riding a white stallion; He came riding in on the colt, a beast of burden, the common man’s mode of transportation and something that carried their “burdens,” a laboring animal they all used. It says He came in meek, humble, and lowly. He, on purpose, positioned Himself this way to demonstrate meekness. You and I will have to tap into this fruit of meekness in our born-again spirit because it is not a part of our flesh. The Lord wants us to learn about meekness, so let’s sign up for some tutoring!
