OBEDIENCE BRINGS MIRACLES
2 Kings 4:2 And Elisha said unto her, what shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you in the house? And she said, your handmaid has not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.
What do you have? God was not asking her for something she didn’t have, and I know God will not ask you for something financially you do not have. Your miracle is already in your possession. All you need for miraculous provision in your life is a seed that is available in your house, in your hands. She told Elisha what she had, a pot of oil. Let’s back up and see how she got into this position. Her husband served Elisha in the ministry; he was faithful and now, he is dead, and she is left with a pile of bills. It was so bad that the creditors were coming to take her two boys to put into slavery, basically, until the debt was paid. She went to Elisha, the prophet of God, for help. Remember, this is the Old Covenant. Today, you don’t and shouldn’t go to a prophet for help; you should go right to God. The Holy Spirit gave the prophet instructions for this dear woman. After Elisha discovered what she had, he gave her specific instructions concerning the oil. He told her to go borrow more containers, and he said, “Don’t get just a few.” He told her to shut the door and fill all the containers she had and set them to the side. These are specific instructions.
I think most people miss their miracles for the following reasons. First, they take instructions from the Lord as suggestions. None of these directions were suggestions; she had to follow each one as it was given to her from God. She wasn’t told to leave the door open so everyone could see the miracle God was performing but to shut the door. She had to go borrow the containers from her family, friends, and neighbors. She couldn’t just wait until God dealt with them to bring the containers to her. Second, I think people don’t receive from God because they don’t take the time to get a rhema from God’s Word, they don’t take the time to hear from God for themselves. You cannot skip this part. You and I are His sheep, and we know His voice; He will lead us and guide us. Without God, of course, there would be no multiplication of the oil; but notice, this miracle was as much left up to this family as it was to God. The family decided how much of a miracle it would be by the number of containers they gathered. It seems God always includes us in on the miracle.
My question to you is, did God tell you something to do in relation to a miracle you need? Are you really waiting on God or has He already given you instructions you have not obeyed? It once again reminds me of what mother Mary said, “Whatever He says do it!” That’s a key to miracles and was for this woman’s miracle that brought debt relief to her life. She did exactly what God said through Elisha to do. We should answer God like Peter answered Jesus when He told Peter to let down his nets. We too should say, “Nevertheless, at your Word.” You don’t have to understand it, just do what He says.
