Inheritance
Ephesians 1:11 “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will.”
What is an inheritance? It is exactly what you think it is. It is when someone dies and leaves you things in their will. Jesus died for us. He took our sin, sickness, and poverty, and He gave us an inheritance.
The Word says, “In whom,” meaning “in Jesus” or “because of Jesus,” we have an inheritance. It was after the counsel of His own will. He wanted us to receive all the good things that are available because of His work on the cross.
I like how it is stated in Hebrews 9:15 (AMPC), “[Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfillment of the promised everlasting inheritance—since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement.”
We have a promised everlasting inheritance. What is included in this inheritance? All the promises of God that are yes and amen to those of us in Christ Jesus. Abraham’s blessings also belong to us. We have been redeemed from the curse of the law and have received the blessings of the law. Everything that Jesus won, because He defeated the devil, is also ours.
According to John 16:15, everything that the Father gave Jesus is now ours. We must receive what belongs to us. Acts 20:32 says, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”
When you get into the Word of God, that Word builds you up and it will cause you to receive your inheritance. It isn’t automatic just because it was left to you in the will and testament. You must claim it. Claim your inheritance. Jesus paid a high price for it. Receive it.
