Sin is Punished

Day 11 of At His Table takes us into a weightier but essential truth: sin has consequences, and its penalty had to be paid. Beginning in Romans 8, today's devotional looks at why the Old Testament sacrifices were necessary and how they revealed both the seriousness of sin and humanity's inability to save itself.

The message unfolds through three important truths: sin requires judgment, we cannot save ourselves, and Jesus took our punishment. Under the old covenant, sacrifices had to be offered again and again, but they could never permanently remove sin. They pointed forward to something greater—a perfect sacrifice that only Jesus could provide.

Hebrews 10 reveals the incredible difference Christ made: instead of another temporary sacrifice, Jesus offered Himself once for all. As you take communion today, reflect on the weight of what He willingly carried on your behalf. The bread and the cup remind us that our forgiveness came at a tremendous price—but because Jesus paid that price completely, no other sacrifice is needed.
