Jesus Became Sin
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Jesus didn’t take our sin; He became sin. Isaiah 53:4-5 describes what Jesus would do for us: He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. We must understand Jesus took our sin. His blood doesn’t just cover our sin. The Passover Lamb took our sin and was the sacrifice for our sin. Our sins were nailed to the cross when the Passover Lamb was nailed to the cross. Therefore, you do not have to be a sinner anymore if you will believe in Jesus’ finished work.
Why do we need a Savior? Why wasn’t the law enough? Why did it have to be the Son of God? Because of the fall of Adam and Eve, men became sinners. Ephesians 2:3 says we were by nature children of wrath. The old nature is a nature of sin. The law pointed us to our need of a Savior, a Redeemer. Jesus, who was the Lamb of God, was the only sacrifice acceptable to remove that old nature. He died for us because it was the only way for mankind to get back to the origin of man, created in the likeness and the image of God. Jesus paid the full restoration price with the greatest commodity ever, His blood! He did it for us!
Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Imagine Jesus tempted by the devil and by His flesh just like us, and yet He never yielded and never sinned! I Peter 2:22 says, “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.” He didn’t sin, but He willingly took the penalty for our sin. What a Savior! What a Redeemer! Jesus is Lord!
