GREAT LIGHT
Matthew 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
Jesus is the light of the world! John 1:4-5 says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” In John 9:5 Jesus said about Himself, “I am the light of the world.” When I think of the light of God, I think, of course, that Jesus is the light, but I also think of light bringing revelation about the Word and about God. When we are born into this world, we are, unfortunately, born into darkness. This world is a dark place and until we are born of the Spirit, we walk in darkness.
Jesus is the cure for spiritual darkness. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. Therefore, when the Psalmist said that the Word of God is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, the Word, Jesus Himself, is bringing revelation light to you. Anytime you don’t know what to do about something, you are sitting in the dark. Ephesians 1:18 is a prayer that Paul gave us by the Holy Ghost that we can pray when we are in darkness. We are to pray that the eyes of our understanding would be flooded with light, with revelation. It is so good to know that anytime I don’t know or understand something, the light awaits me by studying the Word of God and asking for illumination.
When we were physically born into the Earth, we were born into the kingdom of darkness, the devil’s kingdom. The good news is, we don’t have to stay there. We can change kingdoms; we can be translated through the new birth into the kingdom of light, into the kingdom of his dear Son. Jesus is the light and when we embrace Him as Savior and Lord, we embrace the light and are transformed by the light. We were sitting in darkness, but when we saw a great light, Jesus, and embraced that light, we changed kingdoms. The light and the life of God has sprung up in us, and we are forever changed!
