MINISTERING ANGELS
Luke 2:8–9 (KJV)
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.”
Angels are sent from God to minister for those of us who are part of the Kingdom of God. For some, the only time they think about angels is at Christmas time when they put an angel at the top of their Christmas tree or think of the heavenly host that appeared to the shepherds. I want you to know that angels are at work for you if you will speak the Word of God in faith. Psalm 103:20 says, “Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”
I want to draw your attention to the phrase, “Hearkening unto the voice of His Word.” When you and I give voice to the Word of God, angels move. When you say, “My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” something exciting happens. Angels begin to move! They who are strong do the commandments of the Lord. What are the commandments of the Lord? The commandments are found in the Word of God!
Someone asked me one time, “Should I be commanding the angels to do this or that?” I told them from what I see, we just speak the Word, and the angels are enabled to move from that. The angels are sent in response to the Word of God we speak, and they are sent to help us. Hebrews 1:14 (AMPC) says this: “Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?”
What do angels do for us? They have been known to bring messages from Heaven. They also protect us according to Psalm 91. One came and troubled the water at a pool, and the first person in was healed. They are on our side, and they are real. Even if you never see one, they are working with the Word of God that you believe and speak, and they are helping to bring the things of God to pass in your life.
We have had some unique encounters with angels showing up in our services; the last one was during our 30th anniversary service. They just suddenly appeared. Many people sensed them, and a few people actually saw them. This is all wonderful and amazing; however, you and I don't have to wait on anything special from an angel to receive from the Lord. If you never have an angel bring you anything, your faith alone in God will get it done. Even if an angel does bring you something from God, you will still have to learn how to keep it by faith. It just amazes me the special ways God goes about getting us the things we need. He proves again and again that He wants us to receive everything He has for us.
Just like Elisha prayed for his servant during a time they were surrounded by the enemy, my prayer for you and me is the same: “Lord, open our eyes!” It is true what Elisha said: “There are more with us than with them.” You and I have angelic help, so speak the Word of God and let the angels help you too!
