PUT ON THE NEW!
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.
We are to put on the new man. The image we are supposed to get is likened to putting our clothes on in the morning. Are you dressed properly like you would be with the armor of God?
When we were born again, our spirit was made alive; we became a new creation in Christ Jesus, and old things have passed away. We didn’t get a makeover or an upgrade; we became a new creature, a new species of being. We are told, as new creations, to put on the new man. Where do you put it on, in your spirit, in your soul, or on your body? Let’s work backwards and see!
This scripture is not actually talking about putting real clothes on your body, so that one is out.
What about your spirit? You are born again in the image and likeness of God. Your spirit is perfect., so it doesn’t need to be clothed. It needs to be fed with the knowledge of the Word of God, so you can be strong.
It seems to me that we would put these clothes on in our soul. What is our soul? It is our emotions, where our feelings are located; it is our mind where our thoughts and imaginations are; and it is our will, the part of us that makes decisions.
This verse says that we are to be renewed. What scripture does that remind you of? Romans 12:2, which is the renewing of our mind, that we would be transformed. I say it like this, you can stay conformed to this world, or you can choose to be transformed in your mind, to think the thoughts of God, to look into the mirror of the Word of God, so it can show you who you really are. We are to get knowledge of who we are in Christ and put on the image that is shown to us in the Word of God. We are to be transformed in our soul and take on the image of the one who created us. We are to walk in the likeness and image of God, who lives on the inside of us. This knowledge is to transform us in our soul, so it will then be reflected in our actions and in our bodies.
What are we supposed to put on? This chapter goes on to say what we are to wear, what we are to look like, and who we are supposed to act like. All these things are things that God is clothed with. They are bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another, and agape (the God kind of love). The knowledge of these things is in the Word of God, and these are things that when we think of our Heavenly Father, when we think of Jesus, we see these attributes. When we put these things on in our lives, we are letting others see who God, our Father is, which should cause people to be attracted to Him because we are clothed just like Him.
Put these things on and wear them by the help of the Holy Ghost. Your life will be changed and others around you will be changed because you are wearing the right clothes!
