TRUST THE LORD

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

We all want the Lord to direct our paths.  We want Him to order our steps because we know that will be the best for our lives, but we must do what the first part of this verse teaches us for this to happen.  We must trust in the Lord with all our heart.  We must have faith in God that He has the very best possible direction for us; and if we follow His directions and stay in the steps that He has ordered for us, all will be well.   Again, we must trust Him with our whole heart.  We can’t say to the Lord, “Direct my church activities and where I serve, but I will take care of my career.”  We can’t say to the Lord, “Take care of my body, but I will raise my children the way I see fit.”  We must surrender all to God and let Jesus be Lord of our life.  Trust the Lord with your entire heart and give Him every part of your life.

To truly follow the Lord, we cannot lean to our own understanding.  In other words, just like the scriptures say, “Every man’s ways are right in his own mind, but it is the Lord who directs his steps.”  It is good to have godly understanding, but this is talking about your own understanding.  In other words, you are making decisions based on sense knowledge, how you feel about it, what you can see, what you have heard, and what your Google search has come up with.  We cannot lean on our own understanding.  We need God’s wisdom on the matter.  We need God’s plan concerning the situation.  It’s not until you receive direction from the Lord that you are ready for Him to direct your path.

How do you get on the path He has for you?  How do you make sure you have His wisdom instead of yours?  This verse says to acknowledge Him.  How do you do that?  You give first place to Him.  You give first place to His Word.  You give first place to His voice in guiding and leading you in the decisions of life.  You seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.  You get His wisdom in every situation of life.  You set your affections on things above, not on things below.  You let Him direct your every step.  What a life well lived when God is directing our every step.  You can’t go wrong there!
