The Word of His Grace

Acts 20:32 “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

I am so grateful for the grace of God; and in this context, it seems the grace being referred to is saving grace. There are all kinds of grace. There is serving grace, grace to be rich, grace to arrest the devil, and, of course, saving grace. It is by grace, God’s mercy towards us and nothing we have earned, that we are saved. We put our faith in His grace towards us. We receive the finished work of Jesus; and by receiving Jesus as Savior and making Him Lord of our lives, we set ourselves up for the rest of this verse.

The Word of God builds us up. When we put our faith and trust in the living Word of God, it brings increase into every area of our lives. The Word of God is bread. We should eat the Bread every day of our lives. This Bread, the Word of God, causes us to be able to live the abundant life that Jesus tells us is available in John 10:10. He is the living Bread! When we partake of this spiritual food, it sustains us and elevates us in life.

The Word of God and understanding what it says will then give you your inheritance. We are heirs and joint heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ. All the promises of God to us are yes and amen in Christ Jesus! The Word says we are an heir with Abraham; therefore, all that God promised him is ours, and even more than Abraham was promised because we live in a new and better covenant. If you do not know about your inheritance, you will not actively receive it.

What would it be like for someone to go throughout their life doing poorly, living in poverty, going without the basics of life, just doing without, and then find out that they had inherited millions of dollars and had never received what was left to them? That is the plight of many born-again believers. They have no clue of their inheritance and are not walking in all their rights and benefits that the Lord has graciously paid for.

You and I have been given grace. We have received God’s Word to be built up. We have been given an inheritance, and we have been sanctified, or set apart. You are a set-apart child of the Most High God with rights and privileges. Paul was telling these believers, “I have told you everything I can about what Jesus did for you, and now I commend you to do it.” In other words, it is up to you to grab ahold and walk in these truths. I trust that you too are walking in these truths that Paul commended to the people he had ministered to and poured out his life into also.
