You Can’t Overthrow It

Acts 5:38-39 “And now I say unto you, refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nothing. But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it; lest haply you be found even to fight against God.”

The will of God is a powerful thing. If it is His will, then it will prevail, but if it is not His will, then it cannot stand. That is why we teach so much about what is the will of God and what is not. Born-again believers generally believe that the will of God in their lives and for their lives will just automatically happen, but that is a very shallow look at the things of God. The truth from the Word of God does not line up with that assessment of life in God.

The Word clearly teaches that it is the will of God for everyone to experience eternal life with God. It is His will that everyone on planet Earth be born again, but if they do not receive Jesus by faith, then they will perish, even though it is not His will. It is true with your life as well.

If you find and do the will of God, then no one, not even the devil, will prevail against you, even though the enemy will still try. This scripture brings me great comfort that when I find the will of God for my life and do it, even if the devil tries to knock me out of my race, God is on my side, and if I don’t give in or give up, I will prevail because I am doing God’s will.

On the other hand, if I just do my own plan or my own will for my life, when the enemy comes or life brings challenges, my plans will come to nothing. I choose God. I choose to follow Jesus, my great Shepherd, and I choose God’s plan for my life because it cannot be overthrown.
