Walk with God

Genesis 6:9 (NLT) “This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.”

I remember when the Lord said to me, “If you will walk with Me, I can transport you to where you need to go.” Let’s look at what it means to walk with God.

Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9 says, “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” What does it mean to walk with God? It’s spending time with God, following God, being in relationship with God and, perhaps most importantly, having faith or trust in God and obeying His voice.

During Noah’s time, no one seemed to be walking with God, so much so that we see Noah and his family being specifically called out by God. You know the account. God told Noah to build an ark. That ark was a transportation device to get them from one time to another. The only reason Noah got to build the ark was because he walked with God.

Enoch also walked with God. Genesis 5:24 says, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” Hebrews 11:5 says, “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” Enoch walked with God, and it caused him to be translated, and he has not yet tasted death. What caused him to be translated? He pleased God. What caused him to please God? He walked with God. If you will walk with God, He can transport you anywhere you need to go.

In Luke 24, even the two men on the road to Emmaus, as they walked with Jesus, had their hearts burn within them, and the eyes of their understanding were opened so that they knew who He was. The more we walk with the Lord, the more we will know Him.

What do you and I need to do to improve our walk with the Lord?

Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” 1 John 2:3 (AMPC) says, “And this is how we may discern [daily by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments).” Psalm 145:18 (AMPC) says, “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth.”

If you are going to walk with the Lord, you need to be considered His friend. It is a side of God some people don’t think is appropriate for the New Testament, but I have found that, according to James 4:4, we choose either to be a friend of God or a friend of the world. Abraham was called God’s friend in James 2:23, and in John 15:15, we see that Jesus said we are no longer servants but friends.

When you are someone’s friend, you walk with them. I have decided to agree with Him. I have decided to know Him. I have decided to call unto Him in truth. I have decided to be His friend.

Walking with God positions you to be transported by God in any and all situations of your life.
